As a Carrier Sales Representative, you will develop a reliable carrier network, secure capacity, and help coordinate customer freight efficiently and on time. This is an entry-level opportunity for someone who is motivated, comfortable on the phone, and ready to learn the logistics industry. Reports to: Carrier Account Manager / Leadership. What Success Looks Like Success means securing dependable capacity, developing new and repeat carrier relationships, meeting established outbound activity and margin goals, communicating proactively throughout each shipment, and providing reliable service. You will build freight-market knowledge and become a trusted resource for carriers and internal teams. Compensation: $45,000–$50,000 per year plus commission.
Responsibilities
- Make proactive outbound calls to develop new carrier relationships, strengthen existing partnerships, and build repeat business.
- Secure dependable capacity across lanes and markets, matching carriers to loads based on equipment, location, timing, pricing, and service requirements.
- Negotiate competitive carrier rates while balancing customer service requirements, market conditions, and company margin goals.
- Communicate load details, pickup and delivery requirements, expectations, and special shipment instructions to carriers.
- Monitor shipments from pickup through delivery, address potential service issues, and proactively communicate delays and scheduling changes.
- Verify that carriers meet company safety, insurance, compliance, and qualification requirements before booking freight.
- Maintain accurate carrier information, rates, shipment updates, and communication records in the transportation management system (TMS).
- Learn freight markets, lane pricing, seasonal trends, and capacity conditions.
- Help resolve late pickups, missed appointments, service failures, and rate discrepancies.
- Collaborate with customer sales and operations teams to provide capacity solutions and reliable customer service.
- Work toward established activity, margin, load coverage, and carrier development goals.
